Enjoy the Summer this weekend at the Bucktown Arts fest.

This wonderful community event has been setting up shop since 1985 and although a lot has changed in Bucktown since then, this cool little fest continues to promote the unique harmony of the neighborhood. One thing that really attracts me to this type of an event is that it’s run entirely by volunteers, allowing this to be a true community event. The kickoff party will be hosted Thursday night at Small Bar on Division from 6PM-10PM. The kickoff event is an excellent way to meet the volunteers and artists, enjoy adult beverages and participate in a silent auction. You can purchase tickets to the Kickoff in advance by clicking here.

You can visit the Bucktown Arts fest August 23rd and 24th from 11AM-7PM in Senior Citizen’s Park at Oakley and Lyndale.

Bucktown Arts Fest 2008

West Fest officially is Chicago’s best street festival.

Well, at least in the opinion of one blogger. I spent several hours last night prowling Chicago Ave. between Wood and Damen, soaking in the sights of local retailers, food establishments, taverns and of course talent. That talent was in full force late last night, as on the Eastern Wood street stage Derrick Carter was manning the ones and twos, while on the Western Damen stage, the fabulous Meat Puppets were tearing through a raucous set…I did my very best to be in two places at once. Lets just say I can navigate those two blocks of Chicago Ave. in under four minutes without looking like total dork or spilling any of my delicious adult beverage. What a great night! I am attaching some photos of the festivities.
